This course explores how the transition toward a circular economy is transforming purchasing and supply functions in the metals industry. The course provides practical insights into digital product passports, life cycle analysis, and the role of purchasing in building sustainable and competitive business models. You will develop skills to compare materials and suppliers from a sustainability perspective, improve communication across organizational and supply chain boundaries, and understand how legislation, customer demands, and new production technologies influence supply chains. Designed for professionals in purchasing, logistics, or supply chain management, the course combines theory and practice in English.

Circular Metal Supply Chains (5 credits) equips you with the knowledge and skills to navigate and influence tomorrow’s supply chains. You will learn how purchasing and supply functions can drive sustainable and competitive business models, as well as how digital solutions such as product passports enhance transparency and traceability.
Through lectures, assignments, and seminars, you will:
- Learn how digital product passports can be used to secure transparency in the supply chain.
- Understand how circular business models affect purchasing and supplier relations.
- Gain insights into life cycle analysis and the sustainability impact of different materials and suppliers.
- Develop communication skills across functions and with external actors in the supply chain.
- Explore how new legislation, customer demands, and technological advances like mega casting are reshaping supply chain strategies.
This course is designed for professionals in purchasing, logistics, or supply chain management who want to strengthen their competence in sustainable development and circular economy practices. Eligibility:
Alt. 1: Academic degree of at least 180 ECTS within Engineering and/or Business Administration OR
Alt. 2: Passed courses of at least 40 ECTS in the main field of study within Engineering and/or BusinessAdministration and at least 1 year of work experience in the field of Purchasing/ Logistics/ Supply chainmanagement OR
Alt. 3: At least 4 years of work experience in the field of Purchasing/Logistics/Supply chain management AND
Equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
