Jenny Bäckstrand

Associate Professor Operations and Supply Chain Management
Dean´s Office , School of Engineering
PhD

M.Sc., Lic.Eng., PhD, CPIM, CSCP.

Research

The main purpose of Jenny´s research is to investigate how companies in a supply chain can interact in order to increase their competitiveness. In her licentiate thesis, Jenny presented the concept of ‘levels of interaction´ with the three levels: transaction, collaboration, and interaction. Also, a large number of factors affecting the appropriate level of interaction in a certain relation were presented. The factors were  categorized into five categories; product, supply, demand, relation, and context. Finally, an interaction framework where level of interaction is mapped against the affecting factors was introduced. The current research is focusing on how the level of certainty affects the level of interaction. This is treated in the research project KOPeration. The aim of this research is to emphasize the importance regarding the customer order decoupling point and  the products order winners when designing supplier relationships in order to create resource efficient and competitive supply.

Biography

Jenny was born in Karlstad, Sweden. In 1999, after a year as an AuPair in Washington DC, USA, she moved to Linköping, where she in 2004 received a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Industrial Engineering and Management. After graduation, she worked as an assistant teacher at the Department of Production Economics at LiTH before moving to Jönköping University to become a Ph.D. Candidate at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management. Since 2007, Jenny holds a Licentiate of Engineering from Chalmers University of technology, and since 2012 adoctoral degree från Jönköping University. Jenny is the examiner for the course "Purchasing and Supply Chain Management" at JTH.
