Design for casting: Let’s DOE casting simulations!
Which of my designs is better to cast? What should I change to increase my yield and profit? Are simulation results meaningful in a world where our process has variations from day to day?
It’s easy to think that one single simulation can provide all the information you need. However, to find the best solution and design good castings and casting processes requires several simulations. Design of Experiments (DOE) is a methodology that helps you to be smart and efficient in setting up your simulations so that you can gain as much knowledge as possible. This way you can identify the best solution to a problem, but also find a robust solution.
This webinar continues the topic “Design for casting”, where we focus on how to design castings and casting processes. This time, associate professors Magnus Wessén and Jakob Olofsson will meet in a webinar about DOE and discuss its use for, e.g., geometrical design, casting process setup and process robustness. Magnus Wessén, who through his work at Swefos AB has several years of experience working with casting process simulations and DOE, will share some examples and applications, while Jakob Olofsson will provide an introduction to DOE and its theoretical background. We will also discuss aspects as casting process simulations as a tool for designers as well as for foundry engineers to create optimized and robust casting process setups.
