Equal childhood conditions in focus at Children's rights conference

On the Day of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, 20 November, Jönköping University together with Erikshjälpen and the County Administrative Board of Jönköping County will arrange a conference on children's rights. The national Ombudsman for Children Elisabeth Dahlin is one of the speakers together with Frida Lygnegård, researcher at the School of Health and Welfare, among others. The theme of the day is children's right to safe and equal conditions for growing up.

The day is held at the School of Education and Communication and begins with a mingle followed by a solid programme of speakers in the JU auditorium.

Frida Lygnegård, whose research interests include children's rights, will talk about what is required from various social actors to ensure that children grow up and are allowed to develop their potential in times of austerity.

"The conference is important for highlighting how, using the Convention on the Rights of the Child as a tool, we can and should work together to create good growing conditions for all children where children's own experiences and opinions are taken seriously," says Frida.

There will also be panel discussions where questions such as "How should we work to implement the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and ensure the right of all children to equal conditions for growing up?" will be discussed.

The day will end with a candlelight procession in Rådhusparken, which Jönköping municipality organizes every year.
