Elisabet Sandblom

As a certified teacher in English, German and Swedish for upper secondary school, education has long been close to my heart. After my Ph.D. in German with a linguistic specialisation, I have had the opportunity to work at both small and large higher education institutes in Sweden as a senior lecturer for German. At JU, I have been working since 2009 and am, since 2019, a senior lecturer for Swedish with specialisation in didactics. But my duties have also included research, supervision at all levels, course-coordination, and being Associate Dean for Doctoral Programmes at the School of Education and Communication.

Since 1 January 2022, I am the director of Educate, the Educator Centre for Academic Teaching and Learning. I have the joy to work together with colleagues from all schools at JU with the mission to create engaging learning opportunities accessible to all teachers at our university. Part of my time, however, I work with teacher education for upper secondary school at the School of Education and Communication. I teach linguistics and academic writing, supervise and assess degree projects, and coordinate courses in Swedish. I also do research and doctoral supervision. Through my diverse duties in academia, I am well acquainted with many facets of academic life, including teaching, research and administration, which I hope will be beneficial for Educate.

I hope that I will be able contribute to the work of Educate in an inspiring way, promoting values important to JU, such as sustainability, accessibility, flexibility, diversity, equity and inclusion. I envisage Educate as creating good opportunities to promote and enhance learning and teaching processes and practices at JU, creating a better experience both for teachers and for students. This should include innovative pedagogy, both research-based and practice-oriented.
