The research school is part of the government’s initiative to strengthen the scientific foundation for teaching at the country’s folk high schools. It is organized through a collaboration between Linköping University (host university), the University of Gothenburg, and Jönköping University.

The research school aims at a licentiate degree and includes a total of 12 doctoral students. The doctoral students divide their time equally (50% of full-time) between studies and their regular duties as teachers. The studies began in the autumn of 2021 and are conducted in a coordinated format, with a core package of shared courses, residential seminars, and workshops.

The research school aims to contribute practice-oriented knowledge about the folk high school system. Licentiate projects are therefore expected to be carried out in close relation to teachers’ work and teaching practices.
