Welcome to Jönköping University's Spring Celebration Tuesday 30 April at 12.30 p.m. on Campus.
On the last day of April, a tradition in Sweden is that students sing songs of welcome to spring, to the budding greenery and to a brighter future.A choir will sing traditional Swedish songs of welcome to spring. The President of Jönköping University will make a speech to spring and chosen employees will receive the Badge of Merit. Most of it is held in Swedish, but some songs are in English.
30 April is called Walpurgis Eve and at several places bonfires are lit at dusk. It's a public event with choires and speeches. Once the fire dies, many people move on to parties or restaurants, since Walpurgis Eve is followed by 1 May - a public holiday in Sweden.
Welcome to experience a Swedish tradition!
