Remember to get an eduroam account

As of the 4th of May, you need an eduroam account in order to use the university wireless network. David Lundgren works at IT Helpdesk and answers some questions.

What is an eduroam account?

It is the account used for connecting to the wireless network. Eduroam is an international initiative whereby academic institutions cooperate to allow each other’s users to connect to wireless networks at any institution that is part of the initiative, and also in some public places like many airports and railway stations.

Why must staff and students get a new eduroam account?

The change is made because of security reasons and requirements from international academic identity provisioning. Beginning 4 May you are required to use a different password for eduroam from the one associated to your JU user account. It has previously been the same password, but from this date the current password will no longer work with eduroam. A new eduroam account with a different password than your JU user account will be required.

What do I need to do?

Login to hj.se/myaccount with your regular user name and password. At the bottom of the page you will find the option to enter an eduroam password. Please note that the contract of liability must have been approved and that the password has to be exactly 7 characters as well as correspond to the general password rules.

While you’re there, take the opportunity to confirm your private e-mail address and/or your mobile phone number. This will enable you to change a forgotten or expired password via Self service.
