Materials and Manufacturing

Welcome to the department of Materials and Manufacturing. We provide both education and research within the field of sustainable materials and manufacturing.

The department has about 30-40 members. A management team has the task to organize the work and foster the good work of the department members and support the educational and research development.

Research

Our department thrives at the intersection of disciplines, seamlessly integrating Advance materials development to Advance manufacturing technologies, which together lead to optimized components and product innovation. We place a distinctive emphasis on uncovering the intricate connections between materials' design/performance, manufacturing processes, and the resulting component characteristics, enabling transformative advancements in both sustainable product performance and manufacturing efficiency.

Education

Our educational activities covers the whole value chain for a future materials engineer; from basic "diploma" levels to PhD and beyond. We have also been pioneering lifelong learning activities to supply up-to-dated competence to the industry. All our teachers also do research! This provides an efficient integration of our state-of-the-art research outcome to our educational packages. Modern teaching techniques such as blended learning and using AI tools for education are envouraged in our education at the department.

Our department thrives on strong industry collaborations, combining corporate partnerships with cutting-edge applied research. We also offer customized training tailored in close consultation with clients to meet specific sector needs, ensuring practical, impactful solutions that align with industry challenges. Lab facilities

To study the complex relationships between material properties, microstructure, manufacturing process and component design we use a wide range of equipment. Our lab facilities are available for research collaboration as well as educational activities, and covers a spectrum of needs from process optimization to material and component testing and characterizations.
