Prosthetics and Orthotics Studies
The purpose of the clinical placement is for the student to develop and deepen their practical skills and apply theoretical knowledge in order to acquire the readiness required for the future profession as a prosthetist and orthotist. Clinical placements take place in prosthetic and orthotic clinics with patients.

During the program of Prosthetics and Orthotics Studies, the students have to attend a Clinical Placement at three different periods: one period in semester 1, one period in semester 4 and a longer period in semester 6.
Period 1: 3 days at the beginning of the program. This first period is a field of studies at a prosthetic and orthotics clinic to gain a clearer understanding of what the prosthetist/orthotist profession entails. At this stage, the students have not yet received training in manufacturing techniques or safety.
Period 2: 2 weeks at the end of semester 4 in the course Prosthetic and Orthotic Management of the Foot. A clinical placement in which students practice and participate in various orthotic and prosthetic treatments for foot-related problems.
Period 3: 9 consecutives weeks during the final semester of the Prosthetic and Orthotics program. This practical placement takes place within the course of Prosthetics and Orthotics Clinical Placement, totaling 15 credits. During this clinical placement period, students train in all aspects of their future role, including different treatment processes, involving various types of prosthetics and orthotics, for patients with musculoskeletal and biomechanical problems.
The program collaborates with workplaces in Sweden and Norway. Students are placed primarily in Sweden, but upon request and when possible, also in Norway. It may be possible to complete the VFU in other countries under special circumstances, but in such cases the student must contact the clinical placement coordinator.
