Forskning

All materialteknisk forskning bör bidra till utvecklingen mot ett mera hållbart samhälle där vi bättra tar vara på tillgängliga resurser och samtidig ökar säkerheten mot oönskade störningar och haverier. Ytbeläggningar med funktionella egenskaper bidra till detta. Varje år nöts eller rostar konstruktioner sönder för mångmilliardbelopp. Detta är yttekniska problem och även små förbättringar har stor effekt. Man kan också tänka sig mera banbrytande beläggningar som är enklare att rengöra eller rent av är självrengörande, eller ytor som blir antibakteriella när de belysas. Likaväl kan rätt yta förbättra effektiviteten hos värmeväxlare och solceller. För att en beläggning skall ger det önskade resultat krävas att beläggningen har den önskade funktionaliteten samtidigt som den tål den tilltänkta applikationsmiljön under hela sin tilltänkta livslängd. Därför är det alltid ett flertal teknologiska egenskaper som skall kombineras för att skapa en funktionell beläggning.

Forskningen i ytteknik är koncentrerat till metalliska och keramiska beläggningar tillverkade vid kemiska, elektrokemiska eller vakuumdeponeringsprocesser samt metoder för utvärdering av materialstruktur och -egenskaper. Syftet är att studera hur beläggningsprocessers parametrar påverkar beläggningens mikrostuktur som i sin tur är bestämmande för beläggningens materialtekniska egenskaper. Det kan t ex handla om egenskaper som låg friktion, tålighet mot nötning och korrosion eller lågt elektrisk motstånd. Kunskapen skall kunna användas för att skräddarsy beläggningar med önskade egenskaper. För at uppnå detta ingår också matematisk modellering och optimering som viktiga verktyg.

Inom material och tillverkning arbetar vi enligt ett koncept där design och modifiering av yta och bulkmaterial betraktas som ett integrerat materialsystem i syftet att på ett kostnadseffektivt sätt uppnå egenskaper som inte på annat vis är möjliga att uppnå för ett bulkmaterial utan beläggning. Sammantagit forskas det både i att styra beläggningars egenskaper och i hur beläggningar växelverkar med basmaterial samt den omgivna miljön. Det kan t ex handla om lättmetallkomponenter för transportsektorn som ytbehandlas för att leva upp till kraven om livslängd på 10 år eller mera i en krävande applikationsmiljö. 

Speciellt för Tekniska Högskolan i Jönköping är det intressant att tillämpa forskningen i ytteknik på gjutna komponenter för därmed att bygga vidare på den redan starka ställningen inom gjuteriteknik och sålunda bidra till ytterligare att stärka forskningen inom tillämpad materialteknik.

Undervisning

Mellan 2002-08 var Peter Leisner programdirektör för KK-stiftelsens industriforskarskola för elektronikkonstruktion. Han har hållit doktorandkurser i ytteknik och tillförlitlighet i elektronik. Han deltar i kursen funktionella material och ytor.

Biografi

Peter Leisner är civilingenjör i kemi och PhD i maskinteknik inom elektrokemisk ytbehandling. Båda examina är från Danmarks Tekniska Universitet där han sedan jobbade i fem år som forskare och lektor inom ytteknik. Han arbetade bl a med beläggningar inom elektronik och elektrokemisk syntes av nanotekniska material. 1997 blev han gruppchef vid forskningsinstitutet Acreo och var med om att expandera verksamheten i Norrköping. Samtidigt utvecklades kontakten med dåvarande Ingenjörshögskolan i Jönköping vilket resulterade i satsningen på ett centrum för Robust Elektronik i Jönköping 2001. Han etablerade centrumbildningen i Science Park Jönköping med personal från högskola, institut och industri. I samband med detta blev han docent i elektronikproduktion vid Linköpings tekniska högskola. 2006 tillträdde han som adjungerad professor i inbyggda system vid Ingenjörshögskolan. Samma år blev han chef för elektronikenheten vid SP Sveriges Tekniska Forskningsinstitut i Borås, där den materialrelaterade forskningen sedan har växt kraftigt. 2011 omorganiserades forskningen vid JTH och Peter Leisners forskningsgrupp ingår numera i forskningsmiljön Material och Tillverkning inom Maskinteknik. Januari 2012 ändrades inriktningen på den adjungerade professuren till material och tillverkning. Han är också ordförande för European Academy of Surface Technology.
