Forskning

Forskningen är fokuserad kring relationerna mellan gjutningsprocess, mikrostrukturutveckling och resulterande mekaniska egenskaper genom experimentella undersökningar, modelleringar och simulering av det gjutna materialet. Några av forskningsområdenas rubriker:

  • Modellering av ferrit tillväxt i nodulärt gjutjärn
  • Undersökning av effekten av ympningsmedel vid metall penetration hos gråjärn.
  • Simulering av mekaniska egenskaper hos olika gjutjärn.
  • Hållfasthet - duktilitet hos Al-Si-Cu-Mg legeringar i både gjuttillstånd och värmebehandlat tillstånd.
  • Mekaniska egenskaper hos HPDC, pressgjutna aluminiumlegeringar, legeringars potential och egenskaper i gjutstycken.
  • Studium och modellering av elastisk och plastisk deformation hos både gjutjärn och aluminiummaterial.

Forskargruppen består av ca 25 personer, de flesta doktorander och nio har minst doktorsexamen inom området.

Undervisning

Ingvar L Svensson är/har varit examinator och lärare i kurser både på kandidat- (högskoleingenjör), master- och forskarutbildningsnivån vid Jönköpings Tekniska Högskola. Han har givit kurser/ deltagit som föreläsare i Materialteknik, Tillverkningsteknik, Gjuteriteknik,  Matematisk modellering av gjutnings processer, Komponentgjutning med simulering, Tillämpad Gjuteriteknik, Avancerade gjutna material. Han har givit kurser för industrin i minst 15 år inom gjutning och i samverkan tagit fram två webbkurser som erbjudits internationellt, Component casting with simulation and Cast iron.

Han har gett/lett forskarutbildningskurser som Matematisk modellering av gjutprocesser (dk), Gjuteriteknologi (dk), Gjutna material och processer av aluminium, doktorandkurs i gjutjärn samt examinerat ett flertal litteraturkurser.

Handledare och examinator vid Chalmers, institutionen Material och tillverkningsteknik. Han har lett till examination tio doktors avhandlingar och elva licentiat avhandlingar varav några har direkt gjort doktorsavhandlingen och några har avslutat med licentiat examen.

Biografi

Ingvar L Svensson har en bergsingenjörsexamen med materialvetenskaplig inriktning från Teknisk Högskolan I Stockholm KTH, och doktorerade i metallernas gjutning 1984. På KTH var han forskningsledare för gruppen Gjuteriteknologi. Vid högskolan i Jönköping, dåvarande Ingenjörshögskolan bildades Komponentteknologi inriktning gjutning och 1996 blev han professor med den benämningen. Han är idag forskningsledare för det nya forskningsområdet Material och Tillverkning — Gjutning med fokus på strategisk utveckling av gjutna material och processer. Hans egen forskning inkluderar studier av olika gjutna material som gjutjärn och aluminium legeringar kopplat med modellering och simulering.

Han har publicerat mer än 80 refererade arbeten i journaler och vetenskapliga konferenser och många i populärvetenskapliga/tekniska tidskrifter.

Han tillhör editorial board för tidskriften International Journal of Cast Metals Research och är ofta anlitad som reviewer för andra metallurgiska och likande tidskrifter. Han är också medlem i vetenskapsråden för konferenserna, MCWASP - Modeling of Casting, Welding and Advanced Solidification Processes, SPCI - International Symposium of Science and Processing of Cast Iron, och ICSSP, International Conference on Solidification Science and Processing and HTDC - International Conference on HIGH TECH DIE CASTING.

Han är en av initiativtagarna till Casting Innovation Centre (CIC), ett virtuellt centrum mellan Tekniska Högskolan i Jönköping, SwereaSweCast och industrin för att få en internationellt framstående forskningsmiljö inom gjutning.
