Lärandemål

Upon completion of the course students should have the ability to:

Kunskap och förståelse

  • discuss best available evidence in relation to orthotic management of the foot
  • describe aetiology, implications and progression of foot pathologies
  • explain relevant treatment strategies and interventions regarding foot pathologies
  • explain common materials and methods used in the manufacture of foot orthotics
  • explain national, as well as international, guidelines for management of foot pathologies and describe relevant quality registries.

Färdighet och förmåga

  • perform an independent assessment of a client and access correct information to facilitate development of an appropriate management plan
  • critically evaluate the current evidence within the subject area
  • use evidence-based and client-relevant assessment methods, outcome measures and other clinical tools
  • plan, justify and explain treatment goals and interventions, ensuring that the client is at the centre of their management plan
  • manufacture orthoses and prostheses for the foot in accordance to relevant guidelines
  • evaluate function, quality and safety of prosthetic and orthotic devices, using feedback from the client and validated outcome measures
  • justify interventions related to the foot using biomechanical principles
  • cooperate and communicate with clients, carer/next of kin, colleagues and other professions.

Undervisningsformer

The course is conducted in the form of lectures, seminars and labs as well as a clinical placement.

Förkunskapskrav

General entry requirements and completion of the course Prosthetic management and biomechanics of the lower limb II, 15 credits (or the equivalent).

Examination och betyg

Kursen bedöms med betygen A, B, C, D, E, FX eller F.

The course-examination will be based upon one individual written examination, one practical examination and interaction with clients in patient sessions.

A university lecturer serves as examiner for the course.

Attendance requirements
During the course attendance is compulsory during laboratory sessions, seminars and clinical placement.

Temporary interruption of a course
The School of Health and Welfare may suspend a student's participation in clinical training or other practical activities during the course if a student demonstrates gross unfitness/incompetence when applying skills. A student whose work-based training or other practical activities have been canceled due to gross inadequacy/incompetence may not continue study before the course director or examiner has verified and approved that the student has the
knowledge and skills required. In connection with a decision on suspension, the decision will specify the grounds on which the suspension is based. After the decision, an individual plan will be established for the student where knowledge and skills gaps are specified, the degree of support the student is entitled to, and the terms and date(s) for examination(s).
