Lärandemål

Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:

Kunskap och förståelse

  • critically assess recent research within occupational therapy
  • analyse and discuss how theoretical and empirical knowledge interact within occupational therapy
  • analyse how ethical principles affect research processes within occupational therapy.

Färdighet och förmåga

  • independently analyse and discuss applicability of science within occupational therapy
  • initiate and carry out projects within occupational therapy
  • present results of scientific work and argue for their validity, orally and in writing.

Värderingsförmåga och förhållningssätt

  • critically review and evaluate own achievements, and identify what he/she needs to develop with respect to scientific method, approach and argumentation.

- quantitative, qualitative methods or literature reviews
- ethical principles of research
- defence and opposition of a thesis

Undervisningsformer

The course involves independent work under supervision. Students are required to participate in discussions and seminars using a web-based platform.

Undervisningen bedrivs på engelska.

Förkunskapskrav

General entry requirements and completed courses on advanced level within Theory of Science and Scientific Method, 15 credits and 15 credits within Occupational Therapy (or the equivalent)..

Examination och betyg

Kursen bedöms med betygen A, B, C, D, E, FX eller F.

Examination is based on an individually written manuscript in the form of a scientific article, oral presentation of the same manuscript and opposition of a fellow student’s manuscript. In consultation with the examiner the thesis may be done in pairs. In the examination an individual, written self-assessment and reflection of own performance and development of scientific approach and argumentation is also included.

The course is examined by an associate professor.

Participation in on-line seminars are mandatory.

Kurslitteratur

Relevant literature based on chosen topic and scientific method including approximately 2000 pages.
Choice of literature will be made in consultation with assigned supervisor.
