Lärandemål

Upon completion of the course the student should have the

Kunskap och förståelse

  • to describe and discuss different welfare regimes
  • to identify characteristics of the Swedish welfare system in comparison to other welfare systems
  • to describe the living situation of different social groups in Swedish society.

Färdighet och förmåga

  • to reflect upon the relationship between social policy, societal life and everyday living conditions
  • to identify various social policy challenges and discuss its importance to contemporary developments welfare system with emphasis on the Swedish
  • to identify and reflect upon the future of welfare states.

Värderingsförmåga och förhållningssätt

  • to compare and reflect upon living conditions and social work practice in different welfare regimes.

Innehåll

- social policy and the rise of the Swedish welfare state
- the Swedish welfare system and its problems, crisis, restructuring and future
- different models of social welfare policy from an international perspective
- current social policy issues
- poverty from an international perspective
- challenges from a national and international perspective

Lectures, group discussions, seminars.

Förkunskapskrav

The requirements for the course are passing grades in Social Science of 15 higher education credit points or equivalent. For students enrolled at partner universites the eligibility requirements of respective departments applies.

Examination och betyg

Kursen bedöms med betygen A, B, C, D, E, FX eller F.

One individual written exam and one individual written paper.

A lecturer serves as the course examiner.

Attendance to seminars is compulsory.
