Jonas Sandberg är sjuksköterska, med.dr i geriatrik och docent i vårdvetenskap. Jonas arbetar som lektor på avdelningen för omvårdnad på Hälsohögskolan och är också prodekan vid Jönköping University. Jonas är dessutom affilierad forskare vid Palliativt forskningscentrum, Ersta Sköndal Högskola.

Jonas forskningsintresse handlar främst om närståendevårdares situation utifrån genus, identitet och maktperspektiv och våldsprevention vid informell vård. Andra forskningsintressen rör implementering av palliativ vård inom akutsjukvården, internetbaserad KBT-behandling vid insomni till följd av hjärtsjukdom samt långvarig sorg efter katastrofer.
