Marcel Bollmann is an assistant professor at the Department of Computing and member of the Jönköping AI Lab (JAIL).

Marcel's research interests revolve around natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML), with a focus on low-resource learning, multilinguality, and digital humanities. He is particularly interested in improving NLP for a wider range of languages and text genres. During his PhD, he worked on text normalization for historical documents using techniques from character-level machine translation. In his most recent project on morphologically-informed representations in NLP (MorphIRe), he investigated how word-internal structure of languages affects their performance in current NLP models.

Marcel Bollmann holds a PhD (Dr. phil.) in Computational Linguistics from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany. In Bochum, he worked on multiple research projects related to computational historical linguistics. Before joining Jönköping University, he was a postdoc in the CoAStaL NLP group at University of Copenhagen, Denmark, where his MorphIRe project received funding from the EU in form of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship.

Marcel is an active member of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL), where he regularly serves on conference program committees and is site development lead for the ACL Anthology, the largest archive of NLP research papers.
