Aluminium Semi-Solid (SSM) casting has received increased attention by industry due to its intrinsic characteristics such as laminar flow during filling and low in-cavity shrinkage, resulting in castings with low gas entrapment and shrinkage porosities related defects. This process is widely used in the production of thin-walled castings, however thick-walled components are not yet very explored. The aim of my research is to contribute with relevant knowledge regarding processing, microstructure, mechanical and fatigue properties of aluminium SSM castings to be used by designers for production of light weight and cost effective critical structural components.
Biography
Jorge was born in 1985 in Paredes, small city near Porto, Portugal. In 2009 received his Master degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Faculty of Enginnering of the University of Porto. He had been worked for more than 2 years in an aluminium and zinc alloys High Pressure Die Casting company in production and quality management areas. In August 2015, Jorge started his Ph.D. studies at Department of Materials & Manufacturing at School of Engineering, Jönköping University.
