Joy Torgé är filosofie doktor i Äldre och åldrande och universitetslektor i gerontologi. Hon har en tvärvetenskaplig bakgrund i ämnena filosofi, tillämpad etik och folkhälsovetenskap. Hon är medlem i forskningsmiljön ARN-J (Aging Research Network - Jönköping) vid Jönköping University.

Joys avhandling ”Ageing and caring as couples with disabilities” (2014, Linköpings universitet) byggde på kvalitativa intervjuer med äldre par där både hade långvariga eller livslånga fysiska funktionsnedsättningar, om sina erfarenheter av att vårda varandra i hemmet.

Forskning

Joy fortsätter sin forskning om par och informell omsorg och fick 2016 anslag från FORTE för projektet ”Familjeliv och anhörigomsorg inom äldrevården: Par med olika hjälpbehov i särskilt boende”. Projektet handlar om vad det innebär för ett par, där bara en partner har behov av särskilt boende, att bo tillsammans i ett äldreboende enligt parboendegarantin. Projektet avslutas 2019.

Joy är också med som medarbetare i ett annat FORTE-finansierat projekt som handlar om personer över 65 år med psykiska sjukdomar. En delstudie berör hur frivilligorganisationer, som riktar sig mot personer med psykisk ohälsa, ger för stöd till den äldre målgruppen. En annan pågående delstudie handlar om vård- och omsorgpersonalens erfarenheter av personer som åldras med pyskiska sjukdomar.

Tillammans med andra forskare i Häslohögskolan ingår Joy i ett samverkansprojekt med Trafikverket och Räddningstjänsten i Region Jönköpings län. Detta projekt handlar om suicidprevention och har fått stöd av Folkhälsomyndigheten.

Undervisning

Joy är koordinator för det Nordiska Mastersprogrammet i Gerontologi, NordMaG, som är ett samarbete mellan Jönköping University, Lunds universitet, Islands universitet och Norges teknisk-naturvetenskapliga univeristet (NTNU) i Gjøvik. Sedan hösten 2017 är hon programansvarig för magister/master programmen vid Institutet för Gerontologi. Hon undervisar i alla nivåer som föreläsare, kursansvarig och examinator.

Övriga uppdrag

Sedan 2015 är Joy är Editorial Assistant och Book Review Editor i den vetenskapliga tidskriften i socialgerontologi, International Journal of Ageing and Later Life (IJAL). Hon är också suppleant i SGS, Sveriges Gerontologiska Sällskap.
