After completing the course, students should be able, within the areas below, to:

Kunskap och förståelse

  • demonstrate broad knowledge and understanding of the development of different qualitative approaches according to scientific theory and methodology.
  • explain when it is appropriate to use different qualitative approaches.

Färdighet och förmåga

  • independently and creatively identify and prepare research questions that are suitable for a qualitative approach.
  • critically and with scientific accuracy analyse qualitative data to answer a research question
  • independently identify an appropriate data collection method based on a specific qualitative approach

Värderingsförmåga och förhållningssätt

  • evaluate how different ethical dilemmas relate to qualitative approaches.
  • assess the trustworthiness of a qualitative approach and demonstrate scientific probity.

Innehåll

- qualitative research methodology
- the theoretical scientific grounds for qualitative approaches
- research questions in relation to choice of approaches, data collection method and data analysis
- research ethics

Undervisningsformer

The course is comprised of lectures and seminars. The course is performed every three terms, every other time on campus and every other time web-based
The teaching is conducted in English.

Förkunskapskrav

För tillträde till kursen krävs 240 hp varav 60 hp på avancerad nivå, inklusive examensarbete 15 hp (eller motsvarande kurskaper).

Examination och betyg

Kursen bedöms med betygen Underkänd eller Godkänd.

The course is graded Fail (U) or Pass (G).
The course examination is comprised of an individually written assignment, a respondent and opposition seminar and seminars.
The course examiner is an associate professor or professor.
