Erasmus+ scholarship for traineeship

Students who will carry out a traineeship/internship/industrial placement at a company, organisation or research and education centre in one of the 33 Erasmus+ countries can apply for an Erasmus+ traineeship grant. You can also apply for the grant if you are planning to write your degree essay at a company in another European country.

The grant should be a contribution to the expenses arising in connection with the traineeship period, such as travel and accommodation expenses. The traineeship period must be minimum 60 days and maximum 360 days and you are expected to work full time.

  2. Recent graduates


Recent graduates

As a recent graduate you can do and internship after your study programme at JU. You must hand in your application during the last semester of your study programme, while you are still a registered student. The traineeship must be relevant for your education. The traineeship must be finished at the latest 12 months after the final semester date of the study programme.


How to apply?

  1. Make sure the internship is approved by your course coordinator/tutor/supervisor at your faculty.
  2. Click on the link to the right and hand in your online.
  3. Print out / download the pdf, sign it and send it to your course coordinator/tutor/supervisor for signature.
  4. Hand in the signed application to the International Office via the case management system External link, opens in new window..

Please note that your application will not be processed by the International Office until you have submitted the signed application form in the case management system.  

You should submit your application a minimum of 1 month before the start date of the traineeship to ensure the first scholarship payment before the starting date.

***Please have in mind that due to the summer break, applications will not be processed during July.***

We currently apply a "first come first served" approach. Scholarships are granted as long as funding is available. Please note that it is not possible to apply for the Erasmus+ scholarship for traineeships in Sweden.


Participating countries

The member states of the European Union, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey and Serbia can fully take part in the Erasmus+ mobility programme. Switzerland and the UK are not a part of Erasmus+.


After the application

Students will be notified if the application has been granted via e-mail after the application deadline. Please note that the decision will be sent to your JU mail. With that mail you will recieve further information.


Mandatory documents

Grant Agreement - signed by Erasmus coordinator (International Office) and student. An agreement between the student and Jönköping University. The applicant becomes the beneficiary of an EU grant and can start the mobility.

Learning Agreement - signed by student, responsible person for internships (teacher) and the company (contact person). The document contains the tasks, learning outcomes and monitoring/evaluation plan.

Traineeship Certificate - signed by the company (contact person) at the end of the internship. The Certificates contains the traineeship period, working hours, acquired skills and competences among others.

EU survey - a participant report sent to the student's JU email after the internship.


Payments

The scholarship is divided into two instalments:

1. payment: 70% of the entire scholarship at the beginning of the internship

2. payment: 30% of the entire scholarship after the internship.


Process

After the application, once we have reviewed the application you will receive an e-mail from JU's International Office if you have been granted the scholarship. Afterwards you need to do the following:

  • fill out and sign your Grant Agreement
  • fill out a Learning Agreement and gather the signatures of all three parties (yourself, responsible person for your internship at JU/your teacher, supervisor at the receiving organisation).
  • JU's Erasmuscode is S JONKOPI01.

Once you have uploaded your Grant Agreement and Learning Agreement, Jönköping University will make the first payment (70% of the entire scholarship). Please note that it can take up to two weeks before the money has been transferred to your bank account.

After the internship, you need to do the following:

  • upload your signed Traineeship Certificate
  • submit the EU survey (will automatically be sent to your JU email a couple of days after your internship ended)

Once you have uploaded your Traineeship Certificate, Jönköping University will make the second payment (30% of the entire scholarship).
Please note that it can take up to two weeks before the money has been transferred to your bank account.


Good to know: No second instalment will be made without a signed Learning Agreement and a signed Traineeship Certificate. All documents need to be completed asap after the internship (at most within one month after the internship ends) otherwise, you will be asked to refund the entire scholarship.

Erasmus+ countries

You can carry out your traineeship in one of the 33 countries in the Erasmus+ Programme.

You need to live in the host country during the traineeship period.

Insurances

Student-OUT insurance

JU students that are abroad for traineeship/internship/industrial placement at a company are covered by Kammarkollegiets "Student-OUT" insurance. It's the student's responsibility to read the insurance terms and conditions and, if found necessary, get a complementary insurance.

European Health Insurance (Card)
In the case of intra-EU mobility, the student's national health insurance will include a basic coverage during their stay in another EU country, through the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and Försäkringskassan.

Liability insurance
JU students that are abroad for traineeship/internship/industrial placement at a company are covered by a liability insurance.

The liability insurance includes damage or loss caused by the student during the time when the student resides at a work site, as part of ongoing training.

Once a damage has occurred it should be reported as soon as possible to the school. The insurance covers damage or loss to up to 10 million SEK.

Covid-19 and Erasmus+ Scholarship for traineeship

The European Commission has decided that the Erasmus+ scholarship cannot be granted to participants for the virtual part of the mobility (internship).
