Leading Personal Development 5 credits
Course content
Personal leadership effectiveness begins with self-mastery, yet most managers receive little guidance on developing themselves or others through a developmental lens. As organisations face increased pressure to retain talent and drive performance through people rather than processes, your ability to foster genuine development becomes essential. You cannot effectively lead others without first understanding your own developmental stage, blind spots, and behavioural patterns that either enable or constrain your team members' growth trajectories.
This course examines leadership through multiple developmental perspectives, analysing how your own psychological maturity influences your capacity to develop others. You will explore developmental psychology frameworks applied to workplace contexts, study emotional intelligence through stages of personal evolution, and examine family systems theory as it shapes organisational dynamics. The curriculum integrates coaching and mentoring methodologies with reflective practices that reveal your developmental edges. Core modules address wellbeing strategies including stress management and work-life integration, while connecting individual developmental stages to team effectiveness and organisational capacity. You will learn to assess both your own and others' developmental needs across cognitive, emotional, and relational domains.
Upon completion, you will possess tools for recognising developmental readiness in yourself and others, enabling more targeted leadership interventions. You will demonstrate enhanced self-awareness about your own developmental journey and emotional regulation patterns, allowing you to model growth mindsets authentically. Most importantly, you will develop the capacity to meet people where they are developmentally, tailoring your leadership approach to consistently build capability in your direct reports while advancing your own psychological maturity, creating sustainable development cycles throughout your organisation.
