VPN Update – June 22–23

During the work, the service will be unavailable, which means that certain systems and services cannot be accessed remotely. The work will begin on Monday, June 22, and is expected to be completed on Tuesday, June 23.

SSL VPN vs. IPsec VPN

This update means we are switching from SSL VPN to IPsec VPN.

IPsec VPN

  • Protects the entire connection
  • Higher security and better performance

SSL VPN

  • Protects parts of the traffic
  • More known security issues
  • Lower performance

In short: IPsec VPN is usually more secure and faster.

Purpose of the Update

The reason for updating the VPN service is to modernize it and enhance security for users. This improvement ensures that the service is both robust and future-proof.

Steps to take after the update

Once the work is complete, a new configuration will be automatically sent to all JU computers that have FortiClient installed. If you use FortiClient on a personal device or on your JU phone, you will need to change the configuration yourself. New guides for this will be available on the Helpdesk website in conjunction with the update.

Affected systems and services

Remote access to the following systems will be affected by the update. Work on campus will function as usual and will not be affected.
• Academ
• Agresso
• Contract database
• Ciceron/Dynasty
• Diver
• E-Archive
• Flex
• Home directories and Common/Restricted
In addition, access to license servers will be affected during the update.

If you encounter any issues after the update, please feel free to contact the IT Helpdesk.
