The software licenses at the University permit students and staff to install some software on a private computer.

This is permitted ONLY for work-related use and when you are a student or staff member at the University. You can buy the software installation media in IT Helpdesk (except Microsoft Office). Some software is also available for staff and students through Microsoft Azure for Students (formerly known as Imagine/Dreamspark) - see end of page.

Microsoft Azure for Students (formerly known as Imagine/Dreamspark)

Azure for Students is a service available to students and staff that offers free access to Microsofts cloud based environment Azure. The test environment is available for 1 year and includes 100 USD credits free of charge.

Through Azure for Students you will also have access to a selection of Microsofts software for local installation on your home computer / lab computer (MS Office not available here, if you need MS Office, go to portal.office.com to download from there)

The Azure service is available for active students and faculty staff with an ongoing employment. Students who are no longer active but have installed software through the service may continue the use of the software as long as the terms are complied with.

Purposes

  • For development, support, educational purposes in connections with courses / labs
  • Non-commercial research
  • Design, development, testing and demonstration of software as mentioned above; students and staff also have the right to create an extra copy of the software on their own computer for backup purposes, provided that the terms are complied with
