Veronika Pereseina

Business Administration

Who are you and where are you from?

My name is Veronika and I am a Doctoral candidate in Business Administration at JIBS (affiliated with the Centre of Logistics and Supply Chain Management). I am originally from Lithuania (Vilnius). I finished my undergraduate studies at Vilnius University and after few years of working experience I decided to continue my education in Sweden. I chose JIBS for the master studies and came to Sweden in 2009.

How did you decide to become a doctoral student? And why did you decide to do it at JIBS?

My way to the current position as doctoral candidate at JIBS includes many aspects, but most important are: my interest in Logistics and Supply Chain Management area, continued international focus and my curiosity. Thus, I did my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management back home at Economics Department of Vilnius University. I then worked as transport and logistics coordinator at UPS BSC in Vilnius.  At that time I got more interested in Logistics and Supply Chain Management area and after almost two years of work I decided to continue my education. I chose to study at JIBS because it has strong international and entrepreneurial profile but also because it is situated in Jönköping, a hub for many logistics companies. Centre of Logistics and Supply Chain Management at JIBS benefits from the geographical and economic location as well. Consequently, this fact helped me to find internship connected to my studies.

I continued my path with an internship at the logistics department of Fläktwoods AB in Jönköping. This resulted in my master thesis with a focus on transportation as well as later employment as transport coordinator in the company. The experience from the industry as well as education at JIBS increased my interest in Logistics and SCM area even further. My motivation to continue the research in this area brought me to being a part of joint project between the logistics industry and academia. This was a start of my Doctoral candidate position at JIBS with focus in Logistics and SCM.

What are your main research interests?

My main research interest is Sustainability in Supply Chains and Transportation. It is a highly researched topic not only in Sweden but globally. One example is a project that I am involved in. It is a collaborative project between Swedish heavy-vehicle manufacturers and universities in Sweden, China, Poland and Taiwan. One of the project’s goals is to increase awareness and build knowledge about sustainability in transport supply chains (including various stakeholders - manufacturer, dealers, customers, and society). In my thesis I investigate if life cycle assessment contributes to sustainability of the transport supply chains and explore sustainability practices in the logistics industry. The access to the logistics industry in four different countries gives me a unique opportunity of collecting interesting data.

What is the best thing with working at JIBS?

The best thing with working at JIBS is its international and entrepreneurial spirit, which unites all areas: teaching, research, and collaboration with industry and numerous partners. For me personally it creates this engaging atmosphere to do the research and continue to develop professionally in an open-minded and inspiring environment.
