Brazilian company TUPY, the world's largest foundry company, has joined JTH's research profile IFT@JKPG. This week, the company's R&D manager André Ferrarese visited the School of Engineering at Jönköping University (JTH).
“This collaboration gives us a unique opportunity to continue our strategic investment through the KK-funded research profile IFT@JKPG. It is fantastic recognition that our research is world class and can contribute to global development,” says Kerstin Johansen, Professor of Integrated Product and Production Development and Head of Research at JTH.
With TUPY as a new partner, JTH, together with Volvo, Scania and SinterCast, forms a world-leading research consortium in cast iron research. This is part of the IFT@JKPG research profile, to which TUPY is now contributing 7.7 million Swedish kronor. Half of this amount is a cash contribution.
“It shows how much they believe in our research profile,” says Attila Dioszegi, Professor of Foundry Technology at JTH and project manager for the collaboration.
"JU is internationally renowned in casting and for combining technical development and implementation. Our collaboration with large companies such as Volvo and Scania, and the support we receive from the KK Foundation, enable us to be innovative, ensure quality and create opportunities for the industry. I expect that through our participation in IFT@JKPG, we will gain access to more advanced casting methods and learn more about how we can improve our expertise and efficiency. By optimizing the casting process, we can reduce metal consumption while maintaining high quality in our production,” says André Ferrarese.

Research groups gain global attention
“Through his research and ability to network in a long-term manner, Professor Attila Dioszegi has positioned his research group internationally. This is a fantastic development for nationally funded research in the field, attracting international funding to our university and also to Sweden. We look forward to managing this strategic opportunity for more international activities linked to both education and research,” says Kerstin Johansen.
Attila Dioszegi emphasizes that it is prestigious for JTH to be recognized by such a large global company in the casting industry choosing to collaborate with us.
"From an internationalization perspective, it is important for JU to have research groups that are recognized at a global level. Our research group at JTH is one of the most active in the world. We are already leaders in Sweden and Europe in the field of casting. Through our collaboration with TUPY, we will become more global. I also believe that the collaboration can help attract new students and doctoral candidates,”says Attila Dioszegi.
