Basic Physics 2 6 credits

Course content

The course contains basic physics with particular importance to the field of technology. In addition, the course will provide familiarity with the use of mathematical skills and concepts in physics. The course includes the following elements: - _Mechanics:_ Vectors, torque and conditions of equilibrium. - _Two-dimensional motion_ : Projectile motion and centripetal acceleration. - _Mechanical vibrations:_ Spring and pendulum applications, energy calculations, resonance. - _Mechanical waves:_ Properties of mechanical waves such as standing waves. - _Sound:_ Sounds and characteristics of sound waves. - _Electrical and magnetic fields:_ The capacitor, charged particles in magnetic fields. - _Electromagnetic induction_ : Inductance, self-induction. - _AC power:_ Generators, the transformer, inductor and capacitor in an AC circuit. - _Electromagnetic waves:_ Properties such as interference and diffraction. - _Wave optics:_ Properties such as reflection and refraction. - _Atomic Physics:_ The atomic electron structure.

Entry requirements

General entry requirements and Physics 1, Matematics 3b/3c or Physics A, Matematics C alternatively completed course Basic Physics 1, 9 credits (or the equivalent).
