MMTC Workshop 13-14 September at JIBS

This closed two-day workshop seeks to bridge the divide between general management strategy research and media management strategy research.

Title: Strategy work in the media — building practically relevant theory

Conveners: Professors Leona Achtenhagen and Lucy Küng , Media Management and Transformation Centre (MMTC), Jönköping International Business School, Sweden

Participating is, among others, JIBS Dean, Professor Johan Roos and Professor Leif Melin, both as keynote speakers.

Dean Roos is also participating in the research project.

The workshop will combine two key elements:

  • First, it will allow media management scholars to present research projects for collaborative feedback by media management scholars, strategic management scholars, and media managers. In addition to providing feedback on individual submissions, we aim for an integrative discussion of emerging common themes, hopefully triggering a starting point for joint theory-building between all participants in the workshop.
  • Second, the workshop will feature keynotes by theorists (who have published in strategy and general management journals) and practitioners. They will provide insights on current trends in strategy work in the media, and reflect on where scholars could "add value" to this process.

Media Management and Transformation Centre
The workshop is organized by the Media Management and Transformation Centre (MMTC) at Jönköping International Business School. MMTC is a global research and education center with its headquarters in Jönköping, Sweden and branch offices in Asia and Latin America. The MMTC was established to research theories, strategies, and best practices in media management, focusing on questions involving changes in media market structures, transformation and restructuring of media industries.
