Cross-border entrepreneurship
JIBS Professor and Associate Dean for Research, Friederike Welter, was guest editor for a special edition of Entrepreneurship & Regional Development: An International Journal.
Together with Professor David Smallbone of the Small Business Research Centre, Kingston University, UK, Professor Friederike Welter was the editor of volume 24, issue 3-4, 2012 of Entrepreneurship & Regional Development: An International Journal. The special issue was entitled “Cross-border entrepreneurship”.
Cross-border entrepreneurship refers to entrepreneurial activity across international borders, which typically involves some form of cooperation or partnership. It includes a wide range of different types of entrepreneurship, from informal (and semi-legal) petty trading to more substantial enterprise collaborations.
The volume included, among others, the following articles: “Cross-border informal entrepreneurs across the South Texas-Northern Mexico boundary” by Michael J. Pisani and Chad Richardson, “Traders, agricultural entrepreneurs and the development of cross-border regions in West Africa” by Olivier Walther.
