Stefan Sandahl

Stefan Sandahl is a study counselor at JU and team leader for the Work Package 2/WP 2 Campus Development within EULiST, one of five work packages. He is responsible for supporting several Task Groups/TGs within WP 2 including Digital Campus, Open Data, Library, Sustainable Campus Initiative and Academic Support Center.

Stefan also represents WP 2 in the Project Steering Committee, where he collaborates with the other WPs. Each WP has its own objectives, milestones and KPIs, as well as contributing to the overall EULiST objectives.

What is it like to lead a group of people from ten different universities and countries?
- It is very fun and educational. Different conditions such as the size and location of the school, national rules and laws affect the cooperation. It is both exciting, rewarding and sometimes challenging to meet different approaches to academia and varying meeting cultures.

One of the objectives of your work package is to develop a Digital Knowledge Hub. What does this mean?
- The aim is to create a common digital platform that supports knowledge creation, information access and collaboration for students, teachers, researchers, staff and society. This platform will facilitate EULiST collaboration in education, research, innovation and management. One example is a joint EULiST course catalog where our institutions will offer courses for EULiST institutions' students. It is expected to be ready in November 2025, with searchable courses in summer/fall 2026.

What can JU learn from campus development cooperation?
- Each HEI has different strengths. JU can sometimes be a role model and sometimes get inspiration and help. One area where I think JU can develop further is in sustainability, where the Sustainable Campus Initiative working group is working on a common model for measuring carbon footprint (Carbon Footprint Model) and collecting "best practices" to inspire each other in the continued sustainability work.
