Upon completion of the course the student should have the ability to:

Knowledge and understanding

  • describe a process model in occupational therapy
  • select and describe methods for data gathering and instruments for assessments of people, environment and activity in interaction, related to the wishes and needs of the individual.

Skills and abilities

  • conduct activity analyses
  • apply an occupational therapy model for process-related work and for analysis of an individual’s activity problems and resources
  • apply methods for data gathering and instruments for assessment of people, environment and activity in interaction related to the wishes and needs of the individual
  • conduct quality assessments of instruments for gathering data within occupational therapy
  • document the data gathered.

Type of instruction

The course is implemented in the form of lectures, study groups, seminars, workshops and 5 days of clinical fieldwork.

The teaching is conducted in English.

Prerequisites

General entry requirements and passing grade in Occupational Therapy, introduction, 7,5 hp, Scientific Course, Introduction to Research, 7,5 hp, Psychology, basic course, 7,5 hp, Occupational Therapy, Occupation and Health, 7,5 hp.
Furthermore, the student must have attended the following courses: Occupational Therapy, Prevention and Health Promotion, 7,5 hp, Ergonomics, 7,5 hp, Normalcy, Marginalization and Participation, 15 hp, Anatomy and Physiology for Students in the Programme of Occupational Therapy, 7,5 hp, Pathophysiology of Occupational Therapy, 10,5 hp and Gerontology, 4,5 hp (or the equivalent).

Examination and grades

The course is graded A, B, C, D, E, FX or F.

Examination of the course will be conducted by two seminars and three written individual examinations.

A university lecturer serves as the course examiner.

Attendance regulations
Attendance is obligatory at seminars and clinical fieldworks.

Temporary interruption of a course
The School of Health and Welfare may suspend a student's participation in clinical training or other practical activities during the course if a student demonstrates gross unfitness/
incompetence when applying skills. A student whose work-based training or other practical activities have been canceled due to gross inadequacy/incompetence may not continue study before the course director or examiner has verified and approved that the student has the knowledge and skills required. In connection with a decision on suspension, the decision will specify the grounds on which the suspension is based. After the decision, an individual plan will be established for the student where knowledge and skills gaps are specified, the degree of support the student is entitled to, and the terms and date(s) for examination(s).
