A good investment in your future
Jonatan Flyckt grew up in Huskvarna and Jönköping, so it was natural for him to choose Jönköping University (JU) for his Bachelor's degree. When he was finishing his Bachelor’s studies, the AI Engineering programme was being launched, so he decided to stay on and do his Master’s degree at JU as well.
“The best thing about the AI Engineering programme is that it covers a wide range of topics that are relevant to artificial intelligence. We have a lot of freedom to choose which areas we want to explore more, as there are several different projects throughout the courses. I also like that there is a strong connection to academic research in all courses.”
Both the basics of artificial intelligence and machine learning are covered, as well as state-of-the-art research topics. Jonatan thinks that the teachers are very knowledgeable and have advanced research experience in the areas they teach.
He did his Industrial Placement Course at Combitech AB, where he got the chance to implement a lot of the knowledge acquired during the programme in practice. The industrial placement provided a better understanding of the role of Data Scientist/Machine Learning Engineer in a team of developers and they worked on delivering a product to a product owner.
“I like to use data to gain insights in ways that are difficult for people to do intuitively, but where machine learning methods excel. This is what I am interested in working with after my studies. This can be either in the form of a doctoral degree or by working in the industry as a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer. The programme prepares you for many possible career paths, whether in research or industry.”
His greatest memories from his studies this far are the many discussions with his fellow students. Discussions that range from trying to understand complex AI concepts in depth, ethical dilemmas in AI, to the latest in AI research.
“AI is very powerful and allows you to solve tasks that are difficult and time consuming for people. The area is growing extremely fast and will probably continue to do so in the future, so the programme is a good investment in your future.”
