Upon completion of the course the students should have the

Knowledge and understanding

in order to
  • analyze and discuss the theoretical and empirical knowledge in oral health interact
  • analyze how ethical principles affecting research within oral health sciences.

Skills and abilities

in order to
  • independently identify and formulate issues with relevance to the area Oral Health Sciences
  • independently critical review, analyze and discuss scientific work
  • initiate and implement projects and development work in Oral Health
  • perform oral and written presentation of results of scientific work, and argue for its
validity.

Judgement and approach

in order to
  • critically examine and evaluate own efforts and identify what needs to be improved / developed regard to scientific method and information at a scientific level.

Contents

- deepening the subject Oral Health Sciences
- the application of quantitative and / or qualitative methods alt. methods for systematic literature reviews
- research ethics
- defense of own thesis
- opposition of thesis

Type of instruction

The course is conducted through distance learning via the Internet with two campus-based courses, meetings, introductions and examination. Implementation involves independent work under supervision and discussion and seminar via the learning management system.
Teaching is normally in Swedish, but English can occur.

Prerequisites

General admission requirements and completed course at the advanced level of Science and Scientific Methodology, 15 credits and 15 credits within Oral Health (or the equivalent).

Examination and grades

The course is graded A, B, C, D, E, FX or F.

Examination is in the form of an independent project. The examination also includes the defense of their own work and opponentship and an individual written self-evaluation and reflection on own performance and own development of scientific methods and information at a scientific level.
