Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)

Upon completion of the course the student should have the;

Knowledge and understanding

  • describe common diseases, its treatments and importance to oral health
  • describe general pharmacological principles
  • explain mechanisms of drug action and biological effects of analgesic drugs.

Skills and abilities

  • use FASS when issuing prescriptions
  • execute cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Contents

- how common diseases (cardiovascular, respiratory, gastro-intestinal, neurological, endocrine and rheumatic) and their medical care affect oral health and dental treatment
- basic pharmacology; pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
- analgesic drugs
- cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Type of instruction

The course is implemented in the form of lectures and case studies.

The teaching is normally conducted in Swedish, but can occasionally be in English.

Prerequisites

General entry requirements and Anatomy and Physiology, basic course, 7,5 hp (or the equivalent).

Examination and grades

The course is graded A, B, C, D, E, FX or F.

Participation in one seminar, cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and one individually written exam.
