The pulse increases on Campus Gränna

Jönköping University Enterprise (JUE), which has its operations on Campus Gränna, has had a few tough years after Covid. With this semester, the pulse has returned and there are now over 100 students at Campus Gränna.

JUE offers unique Pathway programmes for international students who need to develop their skills in, among other things, academic writing and communication, but also improve their knowledge of the English language and mathematics. JUE can offer the Pathway to students who want to study not only at Jönköping University (JU), but also at the partner universities BI in Oslo and North Park in Chicago. It is primarily non-European students who are attracted to these programmes.

During the Covid pandemic, JUE lost large parts of its target group, when, for example, China and Iran represented the majority of their students. These markets have been largely closed since the pandemic, but that is now turning around. Students from China but also from other countries such as Turkey and Mexico have found their way back to Pathway.

Student numbers increase

”It is great fun that we are now once again managing to attract students to JUE. The vast majority of them then continue their studies at JU, and this semester roughly 80 students went on to one of the international programmes. At Pathway, we now have approximately 80 students who began their studies at JUE in August,” says Josipa Morén, Head of Education and Operations Manager at JUE.

“I have chosen Pathway because my previous studies did not quite fit the admission requirements for international programmes in Sweden. A friend who was previously a student at JU recommended that I apply to Pathway, and I am very happy with the choice so far. The content of the courses suits my needs very well,” says "Suzy" Zishan Su, Pathway Year General student from China. The goal is to continue with her studies at JU after Pathway.

The market has really turned up for JUE. During the last financial year, there were approximately 65 students who studied full-time plus about 70 who participated in the Summer and Winter Schools. Now there are over a hundred students in Gränna and interest in the Summer and Wnter Schools has also increased. There are also around 30 JU students who live on Campus Gränna but complete their studies on the campus in Jönköping.

Strengthens academic skills

“We don’t plan on relaxing our recruitment efforts for JUE. Gränna, where we have our main operations, will see the positive effects of having more students on campus. The students contribute to society by living and studying on campus and we are open to more collaboration opportunities with the business sector within the city. It is also very important for JU's international profile that we bring in students who have chosen to invest in themselves by studying on Pathway to gain skills for academic study. The students also contribute to the culture that exists at JU. If you come to JU, you will meet people from all parts of the world and this is where we at JUE contribute," concludes Josipa Morén.
