Seven out of ten new educations granted for Higher Vocational Education
The department of Higher Vocational Education (HVE) at the School of Engineering (JTH), Jönköping University (JU), has had seven out of ten new applied programmes approved by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Vocational Education (HVE). The programmes start this fall.
JTH has a total of 20 HVE programmes this spring and autumn.
Of the 1,258 applications received from Sweden's all Higher Vocational Education departments the Swedish National Agency for Higher Vocational Education has granted a total of 477 educations. Mats Kihlman is happy and proud of the high acceptance rate of a whopping 70 per cent for the Yh degree programmes that JTH has applied for.
“Current, but also future needs”
"That is significantly higher than the national average of 38 per cent. We see this as recognition of the high quality with which we conduct our educations. Our strong connection to the business world and our ability to, together with employing companies, produce and develop educations that solve their skill needs are decisive for success. It is through the close collaboration that we have been able to design educations that not only meet current but also future needs within the industries,” says Mats Kihlman.
He is grateful for the continued trust from both working life and the Swedish National Agency for Higher Vocational Education to continue this important work.
“In-demand and tailored skills for working life”
The HVE programmes are based on concrete skills needs of the region's employers, who have also been involved in developing its structure and content.
“The HVE programmes provide in-demand and tailored skills for working life and are good examples of how the university and the region's working life can collaborate to jointly solve workforce skills gaps. At least 25 per cent of the training time consists of an internship at a company, which will improve the students’ network of contacts and give an insight into the professional role”, says Mats Kihlman.
"Very important collaboration"
The programme for Real Estate Engineer, which is conducted together with Campus Värnamo, Värnamo municipality, is one of the new granted HVE programme at JTH.
"Through our involvement in the Real Estate Engineer programme, we must be up-to-date on new trends in sustainable building development, which contributes to our own development within the company. We get very close to these students, which makes it easier when we need to recruit the right staff, says Johnny Grauengaard, CEO at bsv architects & engineers.
He sees the collaboration with the HVE department at JTH as very important and mentions that it is of great importance to them as a knowledge-based company.
"It is important that school and industry can work closely together in vocational training, he says.
"Education is important for the region's business life"
Caisa Björndal, business developer at LogPoint and Södra Munksjön Utvecklings AB and chair of the management group for the Yh programme Valuecreating logistics is very happy that JTH got to start that programme this fall.
"This training is important for the continued development of the region's business life and for our region to continue to be a center for logistics, says Caisa Björndal.
A total of 23 HVE programmes are planned to start at JU in the next two semesters, of which 17 at the School of Engineering, two at the School of Health and Welfare and one at Jönköping International Business School. Se the complete list here (in Swedish only).
