"Enjoy the beautiful Swedish summer and nature!"
This summer, Jönköping University (JU) brings you some summer inspiration! Each week, staff members from various parts of JU will share their top summer tips – everything from hidden gems and day trip destinations to personal favourites for relaxation and vacation feeling. This week it's Gabriel Djärf, Video Technician at the School of Communication and Education.

What are you up to this summer?
“I'm trying to sell a house in Jönköping, so this summer I won't be travelling far or away from the city for long. I also play the accordion and sing and I have several gigs during the summer, so I will mostly be at home. But last autumn my wife and I bought a motorhome and this makes it easy to make spontaneous trips with overnight stays. There will probably be some small trips with the motorhome perhaps to the Halland or Bohus coast, Blekinge or maybe a trip to Öland. My wife has not been to Gotland since she was a child, so we would like to go there at some point.”
Do you have a favourite place in Jönköping or the surrounding area?
“Dumme mosse is fantastic. With its unspoilt nature, you can let yourself be lulled into a calm that has been there since ancient times that acts as a balm for the soul. A similar, but slightly more adventurous, place is Skurugata and Skuruhatt outside Eksjö. Travelling through Skurugata can be somewhat strenuous, physically, but it is an exciting and dramatic environment to experience in northern Småland”.
What is your best tip for summer.
“Enjoy the beautiful Swedish summer and nature! Don't stress about trying to do a whole bunch of things in the short weeks you are completely work-free, but enjoy what you have around you. One tip that my wife and I recently discovered is to travel by train regionally and, subject to space, you can take your bike on the trains too. Take your bike to the station and go by train to a neighbouring city and explore it by bike! How often do you get to experience a nearby city in this way? Biking around is very interesting and relaxing way to see a new place.
