Jönköping University welcomes a record number of students to the start of the autumn semester
Over 4,200 new students have been admitted to different programmes and courses at Jönköping University this autumn. About 1,100 of them are international students from all over the world.
The number of students at Jönköping University continues to grow. In total, approximately 200 more students have been admitted this year than last year, and most of them are international students. Including exchange students more than 1,100 new international students are coming to Jönköping University to study this autumn.
“We are happy and proud to see the growing number of students coming to Jönköping University. The increase is an acknowledgement that our endeavour to build an attractive and international university is bearing fruit”, says Anita Hansbo, President of Jönköping University.
The number of international students that have been admitted to an undergraduate or master’s programme this year is approximately 660, which is an increase of more than 140 students since last year. This increase mainly consists of paying students from countries outside the EU.
Among the international students who pay fees for studying in Sweden the majority comes from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, China and Sri Lanka. Most of the programme students from the EU come from Germany. The exchange students come from Jönköping University’s partner universities all over the world, e.g. Australia, Brazil, Thailand, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, Kazakhstan, the US and a number of countries in Europe.
Today is the first day of the semester and the university campus is coming to life again after a slumbering summer period. Both new and old students are arriving and the air vibrates of curiosity and expectation.
“Seeing the campus crowded with students form different parts of the world is wonderful. The student union and many others have prepared a great introduction week and we know that the new students can look forward to a fun start”, says Anita Hansbo.
