Record number of international scholarship holders from the Swedish Institute to JU
Twentyfour international students have recently begun their master's studies at Jönköping University (JU) after being awarded scholarships from the Swedish Institute (SI). The scholarship recipients express great gratitude for their scholarships, carry with them a strong desire to contribute to sustainable development in their home countries, and look forward to their studies.

Record number of international scholarship holders to JU.
The SI Scholarship for Global Professionals is awarded by the Swedish Institute and funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. It is a fully funded international scholarship programme for full-time master's level studies at Swedish universities.
The scholarship is aimed for students and professionals from a number of developing countries and is intended to promote future global leaders who actively contribute to achieving the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The selection of scholarship recipients is based on academic performance, professional experience, leadership skills, and their ability to bring about positive change for sustainable development in their home countries.
New scholarship this year
Two of the students have received a newly established scholarship from SI - SI Pioneering Women in STEM, where STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
The overall aim of the programme is to strengthen capacity development in STEM in countries that are relevant for synergies between development cooperation, promotion and trade. STEM scholarship holders study programmes that focus on developing cutting-edge expertise and advanced knowledge in a STEM field and are aimed at students who want to specialize in a particular technical or scientific discipline.
One of the students who has received the newly established scholarship is Osita Ujunwa from Nigeria. She will be study cyber security at the The School of Engineering at JU and she is grateful for the opportunity.
“The scholarship means everything to me. I have long dreamed of being able to study for a master's degree in cyber security, so I am very grateful for this opportunity. Nigeria is a developing country, but as the country develops, we will also need knowledge of new technologies, and I hope to be able to contribute to that,” she says.

“A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”
Paul Ricardo from Peru, who has been awarded the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals, will study for a Master's degree in International Marketing. Among other things, he hopes that the diversity of students in the programme and at JU will be valuable.
“It will be educational for me to be close to people from other cultures, with different professional experiences and different beliefs. I want to learn how we in marketing can link sustainability to products and services. Our generation has a great responsibility to take action on consumer behaviour. I was really delighted when I heard about the scholarship. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” he says.
In addition to their academic studies at Jönköping University, all scholarship recipients will actively participate in professional networks and exchange experiences with other scholarship recipients, Swedish companies and organizations. This opportunity is offered through the SI Network for Global Professionals.
“Jönköping University welcomes outstanding students of various nationalities who have been awarded SI scholarships. Sustainability is an integral part of JU's educational programmes and promotes the development of skills in line with the Swedish Institute's focus on sustainable development,” says Leticia Lövkvist, SI coordinator at JU.
The scholarship recipients who will be studying for their master's degrees at JU come from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Georgia, Indonesia, Liberia, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, the Philippines, Uganda, Vietnam and Zambia.
