Welcome to the symposium on responsible digital innovation.

Digital innovation is transforming our world in ways that impact every aspect of society and the environment. These changes bring opportunities, but also challenges - shifts in power, growing inequalities and demands on the earth's resources. On 30-31 January, the Media, Management and Transformation Center (MMTC) at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS), invites you to a symposium on the topic.

The symposium is open to everyone and offers a unique to connect with people from academia, industry and the public sector who are passionate about the future of technology and its role in society. Whether you wish to share your perspective, learn from others or explore new collaborations, the discussions during the symposium aim to inspire action and foster meaningful connections.

“We often think of digital spaces as separate from the ‘real world’, but today it has become clear that the digital has profound and tangible effects on our societies and the environment. This symposium provides a possibility to discuss how we can work with innovation in a responsible way and recognize the real effects of our digital choices,” says Maria Arango Kure, PhD student in Business Administration at JIBS and one of the researchers organizing the event.

Responsibility can lead to innovation

The symposium was conceived from the idea that addressing issues such as responsible innovation requires more than one perspective.

“By bringing together people from academia, industry, and the public sector, we can connect research with practice, policy with action and insights with solutions. It provides a chance to explore how responsibility can guide innovation in ways that strengthens the systems we all depend on and ensures that technology contributes to a more equitable, sustainable and resilient future,” says Maria Arango Kure.

The event is structured around four main themes

The symposium will address responsible digital innovation through four main themes:

1. Green technologies, grey areas: digital futures in a finite world

Exploring the intersection of digital innovation and sustainability, with a focus on resource use, ecological impact and resilience.

2. Disrupting work: automation, empowerment and adaptation

Examining the future of work in the context of automation and AI, and their impact on wellbeing and agency.

3. Digital justice: Power, representation and accountability

Investigating how technology is shaping inclusion, representation and accountability in the digital age.

4. Breaking and rebuilding: institutions and trust in the digital age

Analyzing how institutions navigate disruption, rebuild trust and adapt in a time of rapid transformation.

“We hope the symposium will bring together different perspectives to encourage critical and lively discussions and create collective knowledge. Our goal is for participants to leave with practical insights and new connections that inspire meaningful action,” says Maria Arango Kure.
