Find out about research at JU - welcome to JU LIVE

At Jönköping University (JU), innovative and socially beneficial research happens on an ongoing basis. During the autumn semester, the popular lecture series JU LIVE will return, giving you the opportunity to learn about the university’s latest research projects. The series starts on 29 August and will consist of four lectures held in the beautiful university library. JU LIVE is free of charge and open to the public. All lectures are held in Swedish.

Logga JU LIVE

For many years, JU, together with Folkuniversitetet, has invited the public to open lectures, previously under the name Offentliga Föreläsningar (Public Lectures). A year ago, the concept was changed and is now called JU LIVE. Every semester, four popular science lectures are organized, during which the audience get to ask questions and talk to the researchers. All the researchers are from JU's four schools: School of Education and Communication, School of Health and Welfare, School of Engineering and Jönköping International Business School. Sometimes the researchers in turn invite people from the industry that their lecture relates to, or experts from other universities.

Folkuniversitetet involved from the start

JU was already working with Folkuniversitet when it started up the public lectures. This collaboration is fully in line with Folkuniversitetet's mission.

“A central task for Folkuniversitetet is to make new research accessible and easy to understand for the general public. At the same time we also want to highlight and support local researchers. By spreading knowledge to more people, it gives them more opportunities to influence their life situation, which is something we at Folkuniversitetet value highly,” says Viktor Ahlgren, site manager and business developer at Folkuniversitetet Jönköping.

First lecture on 29 August

First up on Thursday 29 August at 16.00 is Marco Nilsson, Senior Lecturer in Political Science, at the School of Education and Communication at JU. The title of his lecture is: “What we know and don't know about violent radicalisation - new ways to prevent it” - and will focus on the fact that there are knowledge gaps in the research about radicalization. He’ll also talk about the importance of understanding why not all those who are exposed to radicalization attempts became so, and how such knowledge can be used to prevent further radicalization happening

“It is very exciting that we are doing JU LIVE for the third semester. We do our best to disseminate our important research conducted here at JU and JU LIVE has a good set-up for that. Under relaxed conditions, the researchers lecture in a popular scientific way, and I know that they are keen to interact with the audience. I would like to encourage everyone to come to our fine university library, enjoy a free coffee and listen to exciting topics that we research. We extend a warm welcome to JU and JU LIVE,” says Jesper Boesen, Head of Collaboration at the School of Education and Communication, who is one of the JU LIVE organisers.
