All time high in international programme students
More international international programme students than ever will come to Jönköping this autumn.
Of the totally 2,500 new students at Jönköping University this autumn, 750 are international students. About 400 students are enrolled in a programme. Among these, 160 students come from outside Europe. Others are exchange students from Jönköping University's 350 partner universities worldwide who stay one or two semesters.
- Jönköping University was the first university in Sweden to work with international student recruitment in focus areas, and we now have students from China, Pakistan, India, Turkey, Nigeria and Cameroon. We have also worked with local admissions and have a close collaboration with the Migration Board that facilitates the work with the students' residence permit, says Tomas Bengtsson, responsible for international student recruitment.
When tuition fees were introduced in Sweden for international students from outside the EU / EEA in 2011, the number of students from those parts of the world in Sweden decreased, also at Jönköping University. But since then the number has increased each year.
- This shows that we are on the right track in our work towards an international university in Jönköping. We are proud that so many international students have chosen Jönköping and we are working hard to give them an education of high quality, says Anita Hansbo, President of Jönköping University.
